Crafting the Perfect Gin and Tonic: Tips for a refreshing twist

Creating the perfect gin and tonic at home is both an art and a science, yet it's one of the simplest and most beloved ways to enjoy gin. Here are some tips to elevate your gin and tonic mixology.

Choose quality ingredients

First and foremost, you want to ensure you’re using high-quality ingredients. Using a premium gin with distinct botanicals, like our King Island Coastal Gin adds a unique touch with its coastal influences.

For the tonic, opt for a high-quality tonic water that complements the flavour profiles of your gin. When using our King Island Coastal Gin, we recommend mixing with a Fever- Tree tonic, in particular the Mediterranian Tonic and Pink Grapefruit soda.

When it comes to combining, as a general rule of thumb for every 1 part gin, add 2 parts tonic. For example, for two shots of gin, you want to use 200ml of tonic water.

Use the right glassware

The glassware you select to serve your gin and tonic can in fact make or break the final concoction. Traditionally, a tall highball glass is preferred as it provides enough space for the ice, tonic and gin aiding in keeping your drink cool and tonic fizzing.

A balloon glass has become a popular choice for serving gin and tonic, thanks to its wide bowl that allows garnishes to fully infuse with your drink. It also offers plenty of space for ice, gin, and tonic. The added benefit of the stem is that it keeps your hands off the glass, helping the ice last longer before melting.

Best served chilled

A gin and tonic is best enjoyed when served chilled and fresh. To keep your drink cool, fill your glass with plenty of ice, keep both the gin and tonic chilled before serving, and for an extra touch, you can even pre-chill your glass.

Garnish

Finally, when it comes to garnishing your gin and tonic, there are many flavour variations to choose from. Our favourite King Island Coastal Gin pairings include:

Lemon and Juniper Berries: This pairing adds a timeless twist to your gin and tonic, enhancing its traditional flavours with a refreshing citrus kick. The zesty lemon complements the aromatic juniper, resulting in a well-balanced, classic combination.Top of Form Bottom of Form.

Cucumber and Mint: Perfect for a warm summer day, the combination of cucumber and mint in your gin and tonic offers a crisp, refreshing experience that will transport you to an island holiday.

Rosemary and salt: A pinch of salt in your gin and tonic enhances the coastal flavours, perfectly complemented by the herbal essence of rosemary.
